This concentration is available to Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering students.

Let us help you build your future! Construction engineering is a civil engineering subdiscipline. This field focuses on making civil and architectural designs a physical reality. By knowing all phases of design and construction, you acquire the skills to change the world.

With the construction engineering management concentration, learn about all components going into designing and building a high-rise, a bridge, a wind turbine and many more structures. At the same time, strengthen your problem-solving, leadership and organizational behavior skills.

Management: Hone the leadership and interpersonal skills that make teamwork a success. Understand how to meet corporate or organizational needs.

In order to receive a certificate from the Dean of the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering and Applied Sciences for the construction engineering management concentration, undergraduate students must complete all of the following requirements:
Completion of four core courses:
Construction Materials Engineering
Foundations, Stability and Retaining Structures
Reinforced Concrete Design
Steel Design
Completion of at least two of the following CE courses:
Introduction to Scheduling and Estimating
Geology for Engineers
Applications in Estimating and Scheduling
Infrastructure Construction
Building Information Modeling/Integrated Project Delivery
Fund. of Building Systems
Sustainable Infrastructure and Building
Intro. to Architectural Engineering
Properties & Performance of Concrete Materials
Transportation Systems Design
Completion of at least one of the following non-CE courses:
Negotiations & Relationship Management
Financial Management
Quality Management & Lean Enterprise
Project Management
Safety Analysis
Law & Society 1
Law of the Workplace
Business & Professional Speaking
In addition to the required courses, as part of the Professional Experience requirement, students must execute the internship option unless the Director of CEM grants prior approval. Likewise, it is recommended that START 383 (Applied Statistics I) be taken as a mathematics elective course for this concentration. A minimum grade point average of 2.0 is required in the courses taken for the concentration (with at least 25 percent of the credit hours taken at 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ unless approved by the Dean).

Construction/Infrastructure: This sequence prepares students for a career in heavy construction management. This area exposes you to projects involving large equipment and excavation for highways, roads and other infrastructure improvements.
Architectural Engineering & Building Construction: Consider a career in sustainable building design and construction management.
Courses involve extensive hands-on learning. Put your knowledge to use through a construction engineering-focused capstone project. We also recommend you continue practicing your skills with the following:

The construction engineering management concentration provided me with the hands-on learning experience that is priceless in the construction industry. Students have the chance to participate in field trips to different companies, workshops on useful computer programs and skills like field estimating and sessions with professionals in the construction industry. This concentration allowed me to become involved in different SPEED teams and led me to get internship offers months in advance.
